Welcome

My site has been a long time    coming...
I finally decided to "bite the bullet" and started SMOOKART.com to market and sell my work.
Frankly, I have run out of space in my home studio
and every other room in the house. Out of necessity,
I have assembled a portfolio of my work to share
with you. I hope you are interested to have a look
and maybe something will speak to you that you can hang in your home, office, or give as a gift.

Someone once said to me, "The problem with you is...you get an idea in your head and you just do it." Personally, I don't feel it's a problem. Perhaps, just with the person who said it.

SMOOKART

About Me
The problem with you is...

I’m a professional visual artist and art educator based in

New Bedford, MA. U.S.A. My current focus is to be blissfully committed to working in the studio.
Best days...when I surprise myself,

Recently retired,  I find myself re-processing life transitions through daily practice. Like all creatives, I am insanely curious about all things, highly motivated and driven to express my wonder  through making.
I strive for sincerity and beauty in my work while expanding my repertoire of skills. Lately, I find myself wondering about creating and printing "Zines". I have been playing with myriad ideas. We'll see...

My goal is to make art daily. I strive to keep my work affordable and accessible so that everyone can admire and be inspired by art they love and speaks to them.

I support art education and will take part-time jobs as a teacher, project manager, grant writer or educational consultant. I enjoy developing integrated curriculum.  I’m happy to apply the experience and skills I’ve obtained in my career in order to manage projects through creative problem solving and innovative thinking. I am exhaustive and can inspire and motivate budding artists of all ages to observe closely and think like artists. I posses an exemplary creative vision and work ethic.

As far as good goes...Curiosity is top.

Born on a farm in Roseau River, I was raised in the nearby city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. We spent a brief period of time in Thompson, Manitoba while my father worked as a foreman in the Nickel mine. After my parents divorced, my mother moved us back
to Winnipeg. I left my home and family to attend graduate school in  Michigan, U.S.A. in 1985.
I graduated from Cranbrook Art Academy with an M.F.A. and upon settling in Massachusetts, I received an M.A.E. from UMass Dartmouth. I currently reside in New Bedford, Mass. U.S.A.
I am inspired by folk and child art, graffiti, nature, life and humans. Most of my professional career has been in the non-profit sector.
I was employed by the New Bedford Art Museum as Director of Studio Education and Outreach for 13 years.
I believe that as artists we can apply our skills, expertise and passion to help others in their exploration, reflection and personal expression in the arts.

Above all, I maintain that art should be affordable.
My artwork is housed in numerous public and private collections.
I have contributed artwork, designed and formatted books for independent authors and institutions when offered the opportunity.
I received the 2019 Community Art Educator Award for the state of Massachusetts. Enough about me. Let's look at some art for you.

Original Prints, Drawings, Photos

My first love was printmaking. Most of the prints I  am offering are the last of them. The etching plates, linocut & wood blocks  are long gone.
